Zip Racing to Field 2 Porsches in ALMS
From the official Zip Release:

RICHMOND, Va., Dec. 27 - ZIP Racing announced today that it will field two Porsche GT3 Rs in the Grand Touring (GT) class in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) in 2003.

The 10-race series begins with the prestigious Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring at Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Fla. March 13-15. All of the events will be broadcast on NBC, CBS or SPEED Channel.

Steve Ivankovich of Chicago, who is beginning his third season of endurance sports car racing, will share one of the team's Porsches with Brent Sherman of Barrington, Ill., who has driven open wheel, stock cars and endurance cars successfully. Two other experienced endurance racers, Spencer Pumpelly of Mason Neck, Va. and Andy Lally of Northport, N.Y., will drive the other Porsche. Pumpelly is a past winner in Grand Am and has extensive Porsche experience. Lally is the 2001 Grand Am Sports Racing Prototype II national champion and won the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in that division that year.

Paul Chabris is the team's crew chief. Engineering support is being provided by Pratt and Miller's Aletheon division.

The team recently received a brand-new 2003 Porsche, which will join a 2002 model as its entries for the 2003 ALMS season.

ZIP Racing Porsches number 34 and 35 ran well in the selected Grand American Rolex Series races they competed in during the 2002 season, and they were always top contenders in the ultra-competitive GT class. The team finished on top of the podium in the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, in 2001 enroute to a fifth-place finish in the final GT point standings that year.
