35 crashes, Hiskey OK
Thursday looked like a great day, with both Zip Porsches at the head of the field of GT cars. Randy Pobst nosed out Spencer by some 4 hundredths for fastest session time, and the team was well ahead of the rest of the pack by almost a second.

Late in the 2nd Practice, Kim Hiskey backed the 35 car into the NASCAR Turn 4 wall. The car took a lazy looping slide, but hit hard, snapping into the unforgiving concrete wall. Our concerns were immediate, as several long moments passed before she got her breath back to report in on the radio. Complaining of neck pain, she was sent to Homestead hospital for x-rays, which fortunately were clean. A sore racer joined the Zip Team for dinner later that evening, and is sitting in the garage as I write, as Greg Fordahl and a hastily assembled crew attempt to rebuild the badly damaged GT3R.

Randy Pobst just told me that it now looks like the car may be repaired in time for today's final practice, and that Grand-Am will allow the car in as a nonqualified provisional entry. Time may be on the Hiskey/Pobst Zip Racing entries side, as the schedule is getting pushed back due to an IRL delay.

Meanwhile, Steve Ivankovich is suited up and ready to go out in a few minutes for the day's second Grand-Am practice. Steve is designated as the qualifying driver, and will be starting the race in the 34 car.

In this morning's session Spencer was pleased with the car's handling, and only the BMW with Boris Said, and the Mosler were marginally quicker in the damp Florida morning.

I will report back after the next practice, which is set to start in a few minutes.
