Due to a small error on my part I was not able to update the web site. The kind folks at DLM Web Services switched the site to a new, more capable server and in the meantime I had not talked to David Minton about the new procedure for updating the site. I finally ran into him (sure, I could have called or E-mailed earlier but...) so he could inform me that the site was updated in exactly the same manner as it was before. I knew that!
Anyway, it has been a while since I last updated this site, so one might guess that there is a lot of new news about Zip Racing right? Wrong! So far all that is certain is that we are not going to be contesting the final round of the Grand Am Rolex Series in Daytona. That doesn’t mean Zip Racing hasn't been busy. The team has been preparing for the 2003 season. Many aspects of next season are up in the air, but I can give you a few details. First a new website is in the making. If you look at most of the sportscar sites under links pumpellyracing.com is listed as a team site not a driver site. The new zip site will be fully interactive (every web site says that, I don't know what that means but it sounds good) and will feature links to the Zip Girls. More on that in a moment. DLM will again assist in the day-to-day updates. I will continue to update this site once every 7-10 years, I mean days. Zip racing is also working with a new partner, Aletheon, which is a division of Pratt and Miller. Much of our success at VIR was a result of having a well-engineered car. The specifics of what we are doing are classified, but look for the Zip Porsches (plural?) to be consistently fast. And speaking of cars, a 2003 is on the way to the home office in Richmond VA. The 2003 will have all the neat tricks that the front running ALMS cars had last year, and perhaps others, as well as (hopefully) the zoomy new headlight bezels that the Turbo street cars and the new 911s have. The 2002 (Christine) is almost fixed, and the 2000 (Sweetness) is sweet as always. That brings us to two other new additions to the Zip team. First comes our new sponsor, Hazardous Sports. The company makes high performance transporting cases for items such as racing helmets and surfboards. They also have a line of athletic apparel that will be available at each event Zip contests next year. The other new members of the crew will be the Hazardous Women. These lovely ladies will be on hand at all the races to promote Zip Racing, promote Hazardous Sports, and distract Kevin Buckler. Steve Ivankovich had the unfortunate task of interviewing all of the applicants one by one and sorting through thousands of picture, but finally a photo shoot is scheduled and a calendar is in the works. It will also feature the cars and drivers, but I have a feeling they may be accidentally forgotten in the final production. And now, for the big question. Are the rumors about a switch to the ALMS true? At this point all I can say is nothing is certain. Look for a very strong one-car effort from Zip in the 2003 Rolex 24, and an appearance at Sebring. Beyond that it is anyone's guess, but good guessers would pick ALMS. - sp |
