Pumpelly and Lally to Share Marcus Motorsports 997 in Grand Am Cup

1/19/06
Andy Lally and Spencer Pumpelly will be teamed together to run in the Grand Am Cup Series for 2006. They will be racing in the GS class driving the #49 Marcus Motorsports Porsche 997 as team owner Steve Marcus makes his return to professional racing.

"I cant wait, this should be a lot of fun" said Andy "With all of the recent announcements of strong teams and driver pairings entering Grand Am Cup this season it will be an awesome fight at the front of the pack every race, all year long. Steve Marcus has been flat out to get these cars ready for us and I love the fact that he is so excited about doing the job right so that we can go out there and have the best chance to win."
Marcus Motorsports is no stranger to Grand American racing. The team had success in the Rolex Sports Car Series GT class in years past with its BMW M3 entries. However, after a two-year absence from Grand American racing, Marcus Motorsports made the decision to switch marques and return in the 2006 Grand-Am Cup Series.

"I have been working on this for a while with Steve" commented Pumpelly, "Im glad it has all come together and I'm looking forward to starting the season in Daytona, we certainly have a challenge ahead of us."

Working with their sponsor Porsche of Lexington, Marcus Motorsports has taken possession of their new Porsche 997 cars from the factory and had them delivered to Synergy Racing for preparation with its competition package. Marcus Motorsports will have their race-ready 997s for the opening round of the 2006 Grand-Am Cup Series which will be held in conjunction with the Rolex 24 At Daytona, January 27, 2006.

A second car was also announced in October with driver Brian Cunningham at the wheel. Brian's teammate in the #50 will be announced shortly. All four drivers in the Marcus Motorsports stable are previous Rolex Grand Am winners.
