Spencer Pumpelly and team mates Ian Bass, Randy Pobst, and Michael Levitas have won the Rolex 24 GT class. After 7 attempts and several heartbreaking endings Spencer and the TPC team were finally able to outrace and outlast the world's top GT teams to claim victory in the year's biggest event. "This has been a lifelong goal," said Pumpelly, "I am really proud of the pace we were able to run throughout the event, and I am proud of the absolutely perfect job the TPC team did in supporting this car from the pits. One mistake from 8:00pm on would have cost us this victory but the TPC crew stood up to this tremendous pressure flawlessly." The 8:00pm time Spencer is referring to is the time when the #36 TPC Porsche took the lead from the #64 Pontiac GTO when rear suspension failure forced it to the garage. From that point on the TPC team was locked in a fierce battle for first with the #65 Pontiac GTO. The lead swapped every time these cars would pit until a slight electrical glitch in the Pontiac gave TPC the lead for good around 4:00am. The race was anything from over as the #65 GTO remained in striking distance often times only 20 seconds behind. In the end the TPC car was able to hold off the charge and bring home the win. "It takes all the right people and all the moves to pull this off," said TPC owner and driver Mike Levitas, "This is by far the biggest race we've won. Every person on this team contributed everything they had to help this team. From the jack man--which I was at one point--to our sponsor Ajilon Consulting who brought 150 people here to root us on, it was a total team effort." The TPC drivers were all rewarded in victory with the presentation of the engraved Rolex Daytona watches traditionally reserved for the 24 hour winners. The next event takes place in Mexico City early next March. Check out Andy Hartwell's interview with Spencer here. Spencer 2/7/2006 Spencer..Again congratulations to you and the rest of the TPC team. It was an incredible race to watch. I felt like one of the lucky ones being there to witness every lap! Glad so much family was there to support you amd know those that couldn't make it were disappointed, but with you all the way by TV and computer!! 2/8/2006 Great job!! You have the nicest smile of the bunch. ~Linds 2/9/2006 Spencer - Congratulations on the Rolex 24 win; great job. Enjoy wearing the watch. Steve Robinson Skip Barber Student - Mid Ohio, 2000 2/15/2006 Look at you now! Who would have thought that all of that training in your Izuzu Trooper would pay off!! Mike Jordan Hayfield '93 2/16/2006 Hi Spencer...Once again your dinosaur friends have to get out the magnifying glasses to read the comments on your blog! But I do understand--there are so many (especially now, since you're such a star!), & some of us are so long-winded (mea culpa). Anyway, we were preparing to watch the 500 today & thought what a neat story it would be if Elliott won, particularly this year. Nice long interview with ASH--lots of ink, which, along with winning the 24, should get you more offers (any with ALMS?). Good luck in Mexico--great to head into the rest of the season leading the points. As always, have fun & take care of yourself. 2/19/2006 Nice interview w/Andy Hartwell!! and yes the font just got bigger for these comments...yr hmbl webbie.dlm 2/19/2006 Thanks Webbie Spencer 2/20/2006 That's sooo much better, thank you. --The Long-winded Dinosaur 2/20/2006 Hey Spencer! What's next for TPC and or MMS? I don't like this hiatus! I want you guys to be out on the track now for some excitement to get us through the rest of the winter. The Olympics are great and all....but come on! We want YOU! 2/22/2006 Spence, Nice interview with Andy and to think he remembered the early one. I'm sorry I wasn't in V lane with you but I was there to see the win. Congratulations. Funny, the comment from you at lunch on Wednsday, when I noticed you were wearing a watch. I guess it did break the spell, you should thank John again. I appreciate the mention and we will get a chance to get our own together. Good luck in Mexico and I will see you at VIR if not before. 2/22/2006 Congratulations Spencer! I have to admit I was rooting for Andy (hey, I can't help it!), but I'm glad if he couldn't win, you did!
